Regions & Locations

Lidarion makes it easy to partition your map into political realms, dangerous wilderness biomes, and notable points of interest.

1. Entering “Create Regions” Mode

In the top header of Hexmap Studio, switch the mode toggle from Build Hexmap to Create Regions (). The palette updates to display your territories and points of interest.

Beneath the header, you can switch between two sub-modes:

  • Regions: Large territorial areas (kingdoms, baronies, biomes, magical zones).
  • Locations: Specific landmarks and points of interest (cities, ruins, dungeons, watchtowers).

2. Painting Regions (Territories & Biomes)

Regions are represented as translucent, color-coded overlays with crisp border contours:

  1. Create a Region:
    • Click “Create New Region” in the palette.
    • Choose a descriptive Region Name (e.g., Kingdom of Valdoria, Whispering Woods, Obsidian Wastes).
    • Pick a distinctive Color for the region’s territorial wash.
  2. Paint Hexes into the Region:
    • Select the region in your list.
    • Use the Brush Tool (with Brush Size 1–6) to click or drag across the map.
    • Every painted hex is immediately assigned to this territory, displaying the region’s color tint.
  3. Removing Hexes:
    • Select the Eraser Tool and click or drag over hexes to unassign them from the territory.
  4. Interactive Hover Tooltips:
    • When exploring or viewing the map, pausing your cursor over any painted hex displays a clean tooltip showing the territory’s name.

3. Creating Locations (Points of Interest)

Locations represent focal points of adventure:

  1. Create a Location:
    • Switch to the Locations sub-tab and click “Create New Location”.
    • Enter the name of your landmark (e.g. Sunken Citadel, Port Silver, Dragon’s Rest).
    • Choose a thematic color.
  2. Assigning the Hex Footprint:
    • Paint the specific hex or cluster of hexes where the location resides.
  3. Discovery Notifications:
    • When players move tokens into a location for the first time, Lidarion can trigger a dramatic on-screen banner: NEW LOCATION DISCOVERED.

4. The Hex Regions & Locations Dashboard

Outside of Hexmap Studio, Gamemasters can manage all regions and locations from a dedicated control dashboard:

  1. In Foundry’s left canvas toolbar, click the “Lidarion - Tools” control icon ().
  2. Click the “Edit Hex Regions & Locations” button ().
  3. The dashboard provides:
    • A searchable list of all regions and locations on the current map.
    • Real-time hex tile counts for each territory.
    • Quick-jump buttons to open the interactive Scene Hub for each entry.
    • One-click deletion with safety confirmation prompts.
